The Hill of Tara is only 50 minutes from our hotel and it is one of the top attractions in Ireland’s Ancient East. The Hill of Tara is located near the River Boyne and is an archaeological complex that runs between Navan and Dunshaughlin in County Meath. The site contains a number of ancient monuments and was once the seat of the High King of Ireland. 142 kings are said to have ruled there during prehistoric and historic times. The site is also mentioned in ancient Irish religion and mythology as Temair was the sacred place of dwelling for the gods and was the entrance to the otherworld while Saint Patrick is said to have visited Tara to confront the ancient religion of the pagans at its most powerful site. The stone of destiny sits on top of the King’s Seat of Temair and is the most famous monument on the site. It is known as Ireland’s ancient coronation stone which was brought here by the gods according to mythology. Mythology says that the stone will roar when it is touched by the rightful King of Tara.

See What Our Guests Have to Say:

‘Terrific’

“We arrived around 3.30pm and check in was smooth while the receptionist extremely welcoming. Room was clean and had a great view. We opted to sit in the bar for dinner and the staff again were great. Food is delicious as were the gins. After a good night’s sleep, we had a beautiful breakfast and the girl in charge of the restaurant  was attentive and a credit to the Treacy chain.”

‘Couldn’t Fault the Service’

"We chose Treacy's Hotel Monaghan to celebrate a special family birthday. Our trip was most memorable and enjoyable topped by the nicest, friendliest and most accommodating professionals I have ever encounter within the industry. The food and service both days were second to none and we ate in both the bar and the restaurant. The rooms were spacious and extremely clean with luxurious bath products and feathered linen. We will most certainly be back in the future and would highly recommend this hotel."
